On December 11, 2013 at approximately 5:45 pm, the Dothan Police Department responded to the 4500 block of Columbia Highway after receiving information of a two vehicle collision near Omussee Road.

Investigators with the Dothan Police Department’s Traffic Division responded to the scene, and through preliminary investigation have determined that one of the vehicles, a 1997 Freightliner truck, had turned west onto Columbia Highway from Omussee Road when the second vehicle, a 2000 Nissan Xterra, travelling east on Columbia Highway, collided with the trailer of that Freightliner truck.

Due to the damage of the Nissan Xterra, its occupants, an adult female and two juveniles were extracted from the vehicle and transported to the Southeast Alabama Medical Center where the adult and one of the juveniles have been listed in critical condition.

The second juvenile was treated for non life threatening injuries.

The semi-truck was occupied by two individuals who were treated and released at the scene.

There is no indication of impairment in any of the parties involved and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.

In the early morning hours of December 12, 2013, a juvenile passengers of the Nissan Xterra, 2 year old Pasleigh Carroll of Webb, Alabama succumbed to injuries received during the crash.

The Dothan Police Department would like to express our condolences to the family of Pasleigh in their time of loss.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all parties involved in this tragedy.


One of the children involved in the crash died around midnight at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd identifies the child as 2 year old Paisleigh Carroll.

Police have not released the names of the others involved in the crash.

An 18-wheeler and a SUV collided on the intersection of Columbia Hwy and Omussee Rd.

Witnesses say the 18-wheeler failed to stop at a stop-sign and pulled out in front of the SUV, then ran in to the side of the truck.

A woman and two young children had to be cut out of the vehicle.

They were all taken to an area hospital.

All three are in critical condition.

The case is currently under investigation.

Highway 52 going towards Columbia is completely closed at this time due to the crash.

Police are on the scene of a crash involving an 18-wheeler and SUV.

Two children and an adult were traveling in the SUV.

Initial reports indicate that two children were taken to an area hospital and an adult is still trapped in the SUV.

The 18-wheeler pulled on Columbia Highway from Omussee Road and hit the SUV.

Highway 52 going towards Columbia is completely closed at this time due to the crash.

At approximately 5:45 pm, the Dothan Police Department received an emergency call of a motor vehicle accident (with injuries) near the intersection of Columbia Highway and Omussee Road.

There have been a total of three patients transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The accident is currently under investigation, but it is believed that one of the vehicles failed to yield the right of way, which led to the accident. More information as it’s made available.
