Thief Drives Off With Two Children, Leaves Them in Lot

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Police say two young children who were asleep on the backseat of a sport utility vehicle when it was stolen from a gas station were found unharmed in a parking lot about a mile away.

Police spokesman, Officer Eric Gallichant, said the thief fled with the Ford Explorer early Monday just before 2 a.m. when it was parked and running outside an Exxon station while the children's father went inside to make a purchase.

Gallichant said Raschurd and Isaiah Kyser, ages 5 and 4, were asleep in the back. When the father came out, the SUV and the children were gone.

A passerby discovered the children minutes later in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant.

Police said the SUV, a white 1995 Ford Explorer with license plate 2C6306Z, has not been found.
