BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A federal grand jury has indicted two former Birmingham police officers accused of using unreasonable force when they beat a man they were arresting in 2008.
Federal prosecutors announced Wednesday that the grand jury had
indicted Barrett Dewitt and David Doran in the beating of a man identified in the indictment as "A.W."
Dewitt and Doran were among five officers who were fired after a dashboard video surfaced showing the arrest of Anthony Warren at
the end of a police chase. An attorney who has represented the officers, Gayle Gear, said they did nothing wrong in arresting a man who is now in prison for attempted murder.
She said the indictment referred to the Warren arrest and the two officers will deny the charges when they appear in court.
