No Evidence Riley Influenced Bingo Ruling

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A former Alabama Supreme Court justice
says in a report he can find no evidence that anyone in Gov. Bob Riley's office tried to influence the court's ruling in a gambling case.

Former Justice Gorman Houston said in his three-page report that after investigating for more than 100 hours he could find no evidence of outside influence in the court's ruling that the governor's task force on illegal gambling could raid the Victoryland casino at Shorter.

Tuscaloosa businessman Stan Pate, a frequent critic of Gov. Bob Riley, had alleged that the governor or his staff had talked to the court about moving the VictoryLand case from one justice to another.
