MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Gov. Bob Riley is recognizing 170
educators who have become National Board Certified Teachers.

The teachers are being commended Monday night at the Governor's
Mansion in Montgomery.

Riley will present them with commendations, and they will receive $5,000 from the state for meeting the rigorous standards for certification.

Riley says the teachers made an extra commitment to pursue excellence in their classrooms, and each one deserves special

Last year, Alabama ranked 11th in the nation in the number of
teachers who have become National Board Certified Teachers.
