Gadsden Man Caught in Rip Tide, Drowns on Coast

Baldwin County Deputy Coroner Rod Steade told the Mobile Press-Register Sunday that 42-year-old Leon Clark Pritchett drowned Friday afternoon despite efforts by his 19-year-old daughter to save his life.

Pritchett and his 11-year-old son were swept off their feet by the currents at about 4 p.m. Friday.

Steade said the victim's daughter, Kelsey Pritchett was able to save her brother by keeping his head above water.

Pritchett;s son's name was not released because of his age.

Steade said the family had been visiting a relative's beach house.

He said Pritchett's wife died about a year ago.
