BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Nearly $1 million in rebates remain for Alabama residents buying energy-efficient appliances.
The federally funded rebate program is in its second phase after not all the $4.2 million sent to Alabama was used by the May deadline. The program reopened earlier this month with $1.8 million.
Mike Presley, spokesman for the state's Department of Economic and Community Affairs, said many who filed for the rebates last spring didn't follow through on using them.
Amounts vary from $25 for an air conditioning unit to $150 for standard-size refrigerators. All appliances must be Energy Star-rated.
