Van der Sloot Concedes Extorting Holloways

AMSTERDAM (AP) - A newspaper has quoted the Dutchman charged
with killing a 21-year-old Peruvian woman and suspected in the disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway as confessing to
extorting money from Holloway's parents.

Holloway was last seen alive with Joran Van der Sloot in Aruba in 2005. Van der Sloot was indicted in the U.S. in June for allegedly extorting $250,000 from Holloway's parents in exchange for revealing the location of her burial place.

He acknowledged doing so in an interview from prison in Peru published Monday by Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

Van der Sloot says "when they offered to pay for the girl's location, I thought: 'Why not'?" Peruvian police say he has confessed to the May murder of Stephany Flores in a Lima hotel room.
