Katrina Survivor's Family Disputes Her Will

MONTEVALLO, Ala. (AP) - The family of an elderly Hurricane Katrina survivor who fled New Orleans for Alabama is suing two friends she named in her will.

A suit filed this week in Shelby County Circuit Court, asks a judge to void the 2006 will of Mildred Harrison and accuses Ed Gruber of wrongly transferring money from her estate. The lawsuit estimates the estate to be worth $6 million.

Gruber and his wife, Helen, helped Harrison flee from their flooded New Orleans neighborhood when they were rescued by a boatload of firefighters. The three settled in Montevallo south of Birmingham.

Harrison, the widow of a Shell Oil executive, died in March at 98.

Gruber's attorney, J. Sanford Mullins III, said Harrison was of sound mind when she wrote her will and the family members seeking the money barely knew her.
