Police After Suspects Who Tried to Take ATM

SPANISH FORT, Ala. (AP) - Authorities are looking for three men they say used a stolen van to smash through the front of an unoccupied gas station and tried to steal an ATM Tuesday morning.

Authorities say it happened around 1:30 a.m. at a BP gas station along Spanish Fort Boulevard. Authorities say a witness saw the men ram the van into the station at least four times. Police say he saw an officer filling up at a nearby gas station and reported the crime. Authorities say the officer called for backup then drove to the scene, where he saw two men attempting to hoist the ATM inside the van's side door.

He says they dropped the machine and got in the van where a waiting driver pulled off. Authorities later learned the van had been stolen from a daycare.
