Police: Man Arrested After Linking Self To Crime

FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) - An officer says he got a surprise
confession from a Florence man who, when asked if he knew why he was pulled over said, "because I took all these fishing poles?"

Police have charged 30-year-old Alan Lee Riley Jr. with second-degree theft and breaking and entering a vehicle.

Authorities say an officer pulled Riley over just after midnight
at Cloverdale and Rasch roads after recognizing him as someone
authorities wanted on felony warrants.

Detective Jerry Pearson says when the officer asked Riley if he
knew why he was being arrested, he indicated $1,300 worth of stolen fishing poles the officer noticed in the back seat.

Riley did not immediately return a phone message left at his
home Tuesday.
