Detained Tuscaloosa Man Called 'Normal Joe'

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Tuscaloosa man being detained in
Amsterdam over suspicious luggage never raised any suspicions where he worked.

Ahmed Mohamed Nasser al Soofi lived in a small house next to the
Texaco convenience store where he worked on one of Tuscaloosa's
main streets, Greensboro Avenue. His manager describes him as a
good guy.

A customer, B.J. Perkins, says al Soofi seemed like a "normal Joe." Perkins is general manager of a used car dealership across the street from the convenience store.

Alabama's director of homeland security, Jim Walker, says al Soofi had never done anything to come to the attention of Alabama authorities before his trip to Amsterdam. He had been living in Tuscaloosa about three months.
