The Huntsville Times reported the department won the most votes in an online contest. Owens Cross Roads beat out other needy fire stations in Indiana, Nevada, Oregon, Kansas, Michigan and Oklahoma.
Fire engine manufacturer E-One sponsored the contest. More than 700 volunteer fire departments submitted essays in an effort to win.
