GPC sophomore Lavell Thomas, a student in the college’s STAR program, gave out “Welcome to GPC” bags with T-shirts and guidebooks to incoming students as he pointed them in the right direction to register for classes on Thursday afternoon. STAR orientation leaders are selected annually on each campus through the Student Life office based on academic achievement, interpersonal skills, co-curricular involvement and leadership potential.

Next week, the fall semester gets underway at Enterprise State Community College (ESCC) with Dr. Nancy Chander beginning her second year as president.

Today, faculty attended the orientation. Dr. Chander says ESCC and the Alabama Aviation Center in Ozark has seen tremendous growth over recent years. In addition, the poor economy means many people are going back to school in order to improve their job skills.

"We offer numerous opportunities in post-secondary education for many people in the current economy who have lost their jobs and they need to learn new job skills… we have gone a far way to do that," said President Chander.

Dr. Chander says today's orientation session helped enhance internal communications within the various departments at the school.
