Sales tax holidays are great for families trying to stretch a dollar.
Those who reside in states that don't have the tax holiday are encouraged to head to Alabama.
Retailers are projecting an increase in sales from shoppers buying more than tax-free items.
Last year, Alabamians saved more than $6 million in sales taxes in one weekend and consumers are hoping to do the same this year.
"I was really shocked when I got the amount because it was a lot less than I expected so I'm sure it was a good amount,” says Tammy Lowe from Edison, Georgia.
This is Alabama's 5th year participating in the sales tax holiday.
