(Dothan, AL)—The Dothan Police Department is no longer sponsoring the current form of the Police Athletic League, PAL. The department started the program last year, and is now looking to start a new athletic league.
In an issued statement to WTVY, Police Chief Greg Benton writes
“Due to issues that I will not make public we feel it is in the best interest of the department and the city to disassociate ourselves with PAL in its current form. However, I will be working closely with other city leaders to ensure that there will be a PAL program in the city of Dothan in the near future.”
Meanwhile Director Johnny Trawick of the current PAL program says the it will continue.
“We will actually extend our services to Houston County, and while funding is slow right now, we do have a plan in place,” Trawick said.
The PAL program has helped more then one-thousand teens over the past two years. PAL Managers say they will ask the Houston County Sheriff’s Department to see if they are interested in sponsoring the program.
