MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- A new study says Alabama has more than 4,700 businesses labeled creative industries and they account for 71,000 jobs and more than $2 billion in annual payroll.
The study was done by the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the regional arts organization South Arts. Film and media account for the biggest portion of the jobs, with more than 26,000 people. Literary and publishing businesses are responsible for nearly 20,000 jobs. Design businesses employ nearly 9,400 people, and the visual arts and crafts account for nearly 8,500 jobs.
The executive director of the Alabama State Council on the Arts, Al Head, says the study demonstrates the economic impact of the arts.
