The third annual wedding race, 'Duel in the Wedding Dress', took place in the Serbian capital on Sunday (July 22).
Around 50 girls ran 164 yards in wedding gowns given to them by sponsors, hoping to win prizes and perhaps the heart of an interested on-looker.
The first three in the race will have their wedding costs covered, although they risk the superstitious belief that if a girl wears a wedding dress before a wedding ceremony, she will never find a groom.
The winner, Sanja Cigoja, covered the distance in just under 19 seconds.
"I have been training for athletics, but this is not my discipline. I was wearing the wedding gown for the first time, so it's a little bit more difficult to run in a wedding gown than in a track suit," she Sanja Cigoja.
For another participant, Milica Novkovic, it was fun and a new experience.
"I wanted to try something new, to have fun, and I like to jog so it was something nice and useful," Milica Novkovic said.
Vesna, a girl who has participated in all three of the races, joked that because she did not win, her prospective groom would not marry her.
"I wanted to win because my groom was waiting for me at the finish line but there will be no wedding this year," she said.
