Business is booming for a Texas teenager.
The young entrepreneur makes toys for dogs... and they've become very popular.
Kevin Reece has the story.
On any given day in west Houston you can find 13 year old Cole amyx in his backyard...
Running a drill press through a tennis ball again and again and again.
"It just came to me...."
It came to him after a conversation with his mom when he was just eight years old.
Pet toys for his dogs - were getting too expensive.
"We were buying toys so I'm like, hey, we can make our own."
So the drill press, the tennis balls, a few strips of fleece and a couple
of good knots.....
"I'll put it through and then you do the knots. How's that."
....And the Cole Amyx slobber dog toy was born.
"I was extremely proud of him..."
Proud because it didn't stop there.
He started selling them at dog parks.
Then at street fairs.
Then on his own website.
To date...he's sold more than two thousand.
And each time a dollar goes to Houston area shelters to help homeless animals.
"Usually when I donate I say it has to go for food first. Food and water. because that's the most important you know."
"Well I say proud.. he's a great kid. And I'm just every grateful...."
"The only thing left to do is to find out if the toys actually work and to do that we enlisted the help of three experts.... Named Skippy, Dixie....and Jack."
The reviews came quickly.
The toys are a hit.
Neighbor art Gibson has bought five already.
"I admire Cole. I think it's great...."
Great that a young Houston teen has turned his love for animals into a business and a cause.
"I guess I could keep going and going."
Just like the dogs.... That can't put his toys down.
