Your favorite beach may not be as clean as it looks.
The Natural Resources Defense Council released it annual beach quality report today.
According to the report, a large number of U-S seashores are contaminated with pollutants from water runoff, sewage and animal waste.
Still, there were a number of beaches that rose above the muck.
Several beaches received 5-star-ratings for their water quality, water testing practices and how well they notify the public about potential water hazards.
This year California has the most beaches with the top rating and the most beaches with the worst rating.
