A 9 year-old boy who gives college lectures and can balance your checkbook...
Ben Dici talks with a certified child genius.
At 9-years old, Tanishq Abraham is well on his way to completing a college degree. The first, I’m sure, of many.
"The typical, a lot of people comment is you know, that we're really pushing him. He's pushing us"
"The people are saying, oh, we are pushing him, we want all these things. It's not the case. That is his passion. That is what he loves."
And what he loves is learning. It's a love that's often put him at the head of his class at American River College, and it's often put him literally in front of his class too, giving guest lectures on everything from paleontology to astronomy.
"I don't mind interacting with other college students. I kind of like it, too."
Tanishq says his favorite subjects are the sciences.
He learned his letters before some kids learned how to talk.
At age 4, he was inducted into the Genius Society Mensa.
Not soon after, his parents took him out of public school so he could learn at his own pace.
(Reporter) "So, it's fine to have a massive intellect, but, of course, it comes down to how that intellect gets applied. And I think he should start right now. I brought my checkbook for you. Would you mind balancing that for me?"
Hey, I’m not above a little free banking, but I did feel like it was unfair to saddle a 9-year-old with questions like, "what do you want to do when you grow up?"
Still, Tanishq did have this to say about his future.
"Use the knowledge to do experiments and invent technologies."
In the meantime, his parents are struggling to keep up, and to keep life for Tanishq, and his sister tiara, as normal as possible.
Oh, yeah. Did I mention? At 6-years-old, tiara is a certified genius, too.
You can see more of Tanishq when Think T-V's starts airing its new program, "Prodigies."
Think T-V profiled him for the pilot.
