A South Carolina man has been pounding the pavement to get his wife a kidney.

No one in their family is a match.

The public has been so moved by the story, the couple's phone won't stop ringing with offers of help.

Last Friday, 77-year-old William Larry Swilling walked 7 and a half miles to find a kidney for his wife.

it's clear he'd walk many more if necessary.

"I want my kidney. That is going to save my wife and that's what I want."

And passers-by apparently moved by Swilling's efforts have been calling him non-stop to inquire about helping.

"It's amazing. I just can't believe what's going on."

The Swillings will celebrate 56 years of marriage in December.

Neither larry nor their three children have the right blood-types to donate,
but hopes are still high.

"I know Larry will do everything possible for me."

Jimmie sue was born with only one kidney which has taken a turn for the worse over the past year.

She is prepared to receive dialysis and is aware that it might be tough to find a match.

"I try not to think of it, but I can't help it."

But the calls from interested people keep on coming.

A spokesman for one organ procurement group says there are some things potential donors need to know.

"They need to fully understand it is truly an operation. With any operation, there are risks."

Medicare or the transplant recipient's insurance will cover the cost of the surgery.

"However, there are other costs that are not -- such as travel, lodging, daycare for children, out of time from work expenses."

The Swillings have turned down offers of money.

They say they just want a kidney and more time together.

"I love her more now than I believe when I married her because we're not two. We're one."
"We need each other and we've been together so long."

The Swillings are getting the paperwork together so potential donors can be tested.
