Unemployment claims are up, as about 366,000 people filed jobless claims last week.
That is up 2,000 from the previous week, according to the labor department.
The increase in claims indicated layoffs for working Americans.
But the number did beat expectations of economists.
The statistic is volatile, which has made it difficult to determine the true strength of the job market.
