Dothan, AL - This year looks promising for seasonal jobs. In fact, one survey shows you may earn more money this holiday season.
It's already beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the Wiregrass Commons Mall.
"Holiday is here," said Lynne Dickerson, Wiregrass Commons Mall Marketing Director.
With tinsel and garland comes more employees.
"Every day we have people coming in looking for jobs. Of course we have many stores out here, and they are hiring. Some have already hired, but they can always come in our office," said Dickerson.
They aren't the only place in town hiring. The National Retail Federation expects more than 600,000 temporary jobs to be filled for this upcoming holiday season.
Walmart and Kohl's are expected to add more than to 50,000 jobs each. Target will add up to 90,000 jobs.
This is good news for everyone.
"It's good for the people who find seasonal employment to go out and purchase things they didn't have for the rest of the year to celebrate and do it with a little bit more style," said Steve Turkoski, Ph.D., Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce Project Manager. "It's good for the businesses because they are hiring people because of the demand."
That demand could mean a happier holiday in the Wiregrass.
About 60 percent of employers plan to pay holiday staffers $10 or more an hour this season.
With most stores, you can apply online or in person. Most say you should be service oriented and like people.
The Wiregrass Commons Mall also has a list of all jobs being advertised in their business office.
