Nintendo’s latest home video gaming console sold hundreds of thousands of units during its first 41 days on the market.
The Nintendo Wii U was released on November 18, 2012 in North America. Many fans and gamers pre-ordered the system so that they could play it during the first days after release.
In a press release, Nintendo has said that they have sold over 890 thousand Wii U systems to date. 470 thousand of those were in the month of December.
Although it hasn’t sold as many units as the Wii did when it launched in 2006, Nintendo has made $30 million more in profit in the same timeframe--three hundred million dollars worth of hardware sold compared to $270 million for the original Wii.
There have yet to be official announcements from Nintendo’s largest home console competitors, Sony and Microsoft, on their next-generation systems.
