The Elks Lodge in Marianna, Florida wants to be able to sell alcohol.
They're asking the Jackson County Commission to waive an ordinance. Current county laws say businesses must be 2500 feet away from a school or church to sell alcohol. The lodge is located 1700 feet from the Deliverance Baptist Church.
"In this case the Elks Club is less than 2500 feet away so we could not sign off on it. The Elks Club member then went before the board of County Commissioners to request a variance," said Joan Schairer, the Director of Jackson County Commission of Development and Planning.
Commissioners will discuss this issue at a public hearing on March 25th at 6pm.
