Florida Consumer Confidence Down

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida's consumer confidence has dropped four points since reaching a post-recession high just before the Nov. 6 election.

University of Florida researchers who conduct the monthly survey weren't surprised at that result on Tuesday.

Survey research director Chris McCarty noted Florida is sharply divided, although Democratic President Barack Obama narrowly won the state. That left Republicans depressed, and it showed in the survey results.

Overall, Florida's consumer confidence index dropped from a revised 80 in October to 76 in November on scale from 2 to 150. The index is benchmarked at 100 points in 1966.

Republicans' confidence fell eight points from 62 to 50.

Democrats' confidence, though, rose by four points from 99 to 103.

McCarty said Florida's consumer confidence is still relatively high for a post-recession period.
