(Dothan, AL)--Recent numbers show an increase in the amount of travelers checking in to the Dothan Regional Airport within the last two years.
"We have seen an increase in travelers over the last twenty months, and that's a good thing to see," Dothan Regional Airport Marketing Director Jennifer Doherty said.
Doherty said a number of things could be contributing to an increase in the volume of passengers, including air fares, frequent flights and even economy recovery.
"A lot of variables go into passenger traffic, so in general it's not easy to spot trends on the front, but it's a lot easier on the back end," Doherty said.
Officials say although travel numbers are improving, that doesn't mean the Dothan Regional Airport will be expanding any time soon.
"While we talk to the airlines frequently about whether or not they're satisfied with the passenger traffic, it will take quite a bit more volume before making any changes," Doherty said.
Airport officials speak with airlines on a quarterly basis about passenger volume to determine if flight frequency should be altered or if bigger aircraft is needed.
