The success of the comic book adaptation of Hasbro's “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” continues, charting in the top 100 for the year and becoming the publisher’s most successful book of 2012.
As News 4 previously reported, the first issue of IDW’s “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” comic book garnered over 100 thousand pre-orders. Many of these orders likely came from Bronies, adult fans of the animated series that the book is based on.
Now, the final sales numbers for comics for 2012 have been released. According to Diamond Comic Distributors “Top 500 of 2012,” the first issue of “Pony,” released in November, placed overall at #90 and #61 by dollar value sold, beating out many competing issues of comic stalwarts such as Batman, The Avengers, and others.
It is also the most successful comic for company IDW in the year of 2012. In fact, according to previous sales figures, this issue sold much more than the company’s previous top-selling comic book. This makes Issue #1 of “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic” the most successful single issue in the company’s history.
IDW was founded in 1999 and also currently publishes comics in such franchises as “Star Trek,” “Doctor Who,” and “G.I. Joe”
The highest-selling comic book in 2012 was from Image Comics and was “The Walking Dead” issue #100.
