This is one of only two amendments on Georgia’s ballot and it deals with charter schools.
Amendment #1 asks if the state of Georgia should allow state or local approval of charter schools, if a local town or city asks for one.
In May of 2011, the state's involvement in the commissioning and approval of charter schools was struck down by the Georgia Supreme Court; however, that ruling didn’t apply to schools which were not opposed by local communities.
It's supported by organizations like the Technology Association of Georgia, but opposed by numerous teachers associations, such as the Georgia Association of Educators.
