Cases of malignant melanoma in light-skinned children are going up.

A new study published in the journal Pediatrics shows between 1973 and 2009- more than 12 hundred Caucasian children were diagnosed with the disease.

The overall rate of pediatric melanoma increased by an average of two percent a year.

Some doctors say the reason may be an increased use of tanning beds by young people.
