Gulf Coast Tops St. Petersburg for Spot in State Championship Game

MARIANNA, FL -- The Gulf Coast Lady Commodores will play for the FCSAA State Championship. Gulf Coast led from the opening tip and cruised to an 80-70 win over St. Petersburg College at the State Tournament on Friday.

With the win, the Lady Commodores advanced to face the winner of Chipola and Northwest Florida for the State Championship on Saturday night at 5 p.m. The game will be played at the Milton Johnson Health Center.

Necole Sterling led four Gulf Coast players in double figures with 21 points. Jessica Morton added 16 points, ahead of 14 from Tamara Taylor and 12 from Aissata Maiga.

Morton and Kayla Montgomery grabbed 10 rebounds each for the Lady Commodores.

Ayshia McNeil led St. Petersburg with 25 points.
