Bessemer to Get 8.2 Million Dollars For Public Housing Makeover

Posted: 2:13 PM Jan 19, 2013

An Alabama city says it will receive $8.2 million from a federal program aimed at improving public housing.

Reports say the city of Bessemer will use the money for repairs and renovations on 198 low-rent public housing units.

The project was approved for funding under an initiative of the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development.

About $5.2 million of the funding will come from private partners.

Alphonso Patrick, director of the Bessemer Housing Authority, says his agency would never have been able to make the planned improvements without help.
