Panhandle Artist covers graffiti with murals

Posted: 12:22 AM Apr 24, 2012
Reporter: The Associated Press

A Fort Walton Beach artist is covering up area graffiti with his own creative murals.

Some residents are fans of Jonathan Yubi's works, but others aren't sure what to think.

His goal is to create 12 murals before moving on to another area.

Yubi is painting a mural that will cover graffiti visible from the restaurant that Stan Bendorf owns. Bendorf says he's worried customers might not like the cartoon-like charters and colorful animals.

But he told The Northwest Florida Daily News the work is better than he imagined and much better than the graffiti that was there before.

Others say they would prefer murals that reflect the sea life and culture and of the beach town.
