Gov. Scott at Standstill Over Tuition Bill

Posted: 7:34 PM Apr 12, 2012
Reporter: Associated Press

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Gov. Rick Scott says he's still undecided on a tuition bill after meeting with its supporters, including presidents of the University of Florida and Florida State University.

Florida's Bernie Machen and Florida State's Eric Barron made their pitch to Scott on Thursday in Tallahassee.

The bill (HB 7129) would let the two schools raise tuition at a rate higher than the 15 percent per year currently allowed.

Scott said he expected to hear more about the bill before he makes a decision on whether to sign it next week.

He still had questions about what students would get in return for paying more.

The presidents say the additional funds will improve quality so they can join the top echelon of the nation's universities.
