Posted: 11:40 AM Feb 6, 2013
Reporter: Press Release

Please be our guest at our first EMPTY BOWLS DOTHAN event, Saturday, February 9 at the Cultural Arts Center. A joint project of the Cultural Arts Center and the Wiregrass Area Food Bank, Empty Bowls Project originated by potters in North Carolina to aid in local hunger prevention and has taken off across the nation. The concept is for area potters and student potters to make and donate soup bowls for the fundraiswer. On event day the bowls are sold to the public along with a simple bowl of soup, some bread, and water to symbolize the simple meal of the hungry.

Empty Bowls Dothan is our local event to help support hunger prevention in the Wiregrass through the Wiregrass Food Bank. Student potters from First United Methodist Church, Westgate Christian Church, a large number of Boy Scout Troops, FBLA groups in the county schools, The Cultural Arts Center pottery classes, David Plunkett, and others to name a few, have all made bowls and donated them to this project. It is truly a community effort, and now we need your help.

Come February 9, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the banquet hall of the Cultural Arts Center (909 S. St. Andrews Street) and have a bowl of soup, bread, water, and brownies for $10 and help us make a difference in hunger in Dothan.
