London Still Working on Summer Olympics Safety Plan

Posted: 8:58 PM May 4, 2012
Reporter: News Staff

The 2012 Summer Olympics are fast approaching, and Britain is still putting the finishing touches on its security plan.

In a surprising move the Royal Navy's largest ship, the HMS Ocean, sailed up the Thames River Friday, docking near Olympic Stadium.

Five hundred troops will be stationed on the helicopter carrier that just arrived from its last deployment in Libya. The military is also deploying fighter jets and placing ground-to-air missiles on apartment rooftops. Many people in London are outraged, but others said safety should be the first priority.

So far, the missile systems on the ground haven't been unarmed, and it's possible they may stay that way.
