A recent program is providing a better way to protect border control.

It's called the Huey One Conversion Program. It cuts down costs along with putting more helicopters on the border in less time, and all work is done here in the Wiregrass.

"It's what's called zero timing the aircraft where everything is basically new, they strip the aircraft all the way down to the bare metal, rebuild it back up with new transmission, new engine, and you end up with an aircraft that is basically starting its service life over again," says Douglas Koupash with U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The first helicopter has about a week more of inspections before it will be used on the border.
