It's a dirty job, but somebody has to do it.

It's cleaning your chimney...a job that is needed to keep your home from going up in flames.

Clevland pope with the chimney sweeps pulls his van into your driveway....

Rolls out his industrial vacuum, shows the homeowner that he is a certified chimney sweeper, and with that the work begins, and there is a check list to abide by to keep your chimney in tip top shape.

"Fireplaces should be checked every year," says chimney sweeper Cleveland Pope.

And that check system will,

"We are now checking for, cracks, malfunctions, or failures in the system itself, or also checking to see if there is some settlement issues with the unit," says Cleveland Pope.

Homeowner Tim Hartzell says he knew it was getting close to time for cleaning and inspection.

"Every time I opened my damper soot would fall everywhere so I knew it was time, I actually work with the fire department, here in the city and I know what can happen I have been to many fires, that were caused by dirty chimney's and fireplaces,” says homeowner Tim Hartzell.

A tragedy he wants to avoid with his family, in order to continue to make pleasant memories.

"We can watch the Alabama football team maybe against auburn for thanksgiving, around the fire, be comfortable, be safe, have fun, and roll tide" says homeowner Tim Hartzell.

Now once your chimney is cleaned and inspected for the cold weather, there is a little bit of entertainment involved.

Pope also recommends that you never place paper in the fireplace, because the embers could rise up the chimney and ignite a fire on your roof.
