Seminole County Commissioners adopted a new millage rate. Properties with a fair market value of $40,000 will see a $7.80 increase. Properties valued at $120,000 will see a $23.42 increase.
Seminole County Commission held a public hearing Thursday night to get community input. Residents were not happy to see their property taxes go up, but commissioners said the money will be used towards county maintenance and operations.
"Better roads, better bridges, the grass on the shoulders of the roads will continue to be mowed, the limbs hanging over the road will continue to be mowed," explained Roger Lane, chairman of the Seminole County Commission.
This is the first time Seminole County raised their millage rate since 2007. Property taxes are due December 31st of this year.
