Search for Enterprise Superintendent Underway

It's been a month since an Enterprise school board meeting where tempers flared and accusations flew. Thursday's meeting was starkly different.

Back in June, tensions ran high at the school board meeting as community members and former superintendents clashed with the board.

Superintendent Aaron Milner announced he was leaving the school system. And citizens pointed fingers at board members, accusing them of undermining the superintendent's authority.

Thursday's meeting took on a more cooperative tone as the board discussed its plans to fill the open superintendent position.

They hope that with help from the community, they'll have a decision within the next four months. For now, Jimmy Baker will serve as Interim Superintendent.

Board members say working together is the only way the school system can continue to move forward.

"I think the community sees the effort that's being put forth by the board and by the Interim Superintendent," says Board of Education President Ross Cotter.

"And all the teachers and principles in central office. Everybody's gone back to work to get the job done. And we have a great school system. That doesn't mean that we're always satisfied with everything. We're continually trying to improve it and we're going to be on that road to do that."

Interim Superintendent Jimmy Baker has served as Assistant State Superintendent twice. He has also worked as finance director for the state.

At Thursday's meeting, board members also talked about updates at Enterprise High School.

Students will now be able to use mobile apps on their phones to put money on their meal plans, pay fees and get parents to sign permission slips.
