For 42 employees at Qualico Steel Company in Webb, the next two weeks will be a mandatory vacation. Workers were called into the main office Wednesday, four at a time, to hear some upsetting news.
Their next paycheck is taking a hit because they won't be coming in to work for the rest of the month. Qualico administrators declined to comment about the layoffs on camera, but they did admit that this is an unusual measure to take.
Personnel director Joannette Feltman says this is the first time in years that Qualico has had to let workers go temporarily.
The steel manufacturing company is saying that project delays are the reason for sending employees home, and that when those projects resume,
they will call employees to come back.
With nearly a third of Qualico shop workers gone, Feltman tells WTVY the company expects to bring them back to the shop by the first of September.
