Homeowners Are Getting Prepared for 2014 Severe Weather Season

Homeowners from the panhandle are are invited to a free disaster preparation workshop.

A car drives past a building damaged in this week's earthquake in Mineral, Va., on Saturday, Aug. 27. Some feared Hurricane Irene would finish what Tuesday's temblor started, but the Virginia town got only the storm's outermost bands.

It's no secret, Florida is a state open to natural disasters.

That's why a group of experts took a visit to Jackson County to share valuable information to homeowners on how to prepare for severe weather. The two-hour workshop was led by the Christian Contractors Association, a non-profit volunteer organization that serves those in emergency need.Workshop participants learned how to prepare their homes against damage caused by floods, wildfires and hurricanes.
