Early County Organizations Come Together to Support the Troops

Last week two soldiers assigned to Fort Benning lost their lives.

This week in Early County, the community is coming together to send the troops some love.

The 75th Ranger Regiment lost two soldiers last Sunday.

They were killed by an Improvised Explosive Device, or I.E.D during combat operations in Afghanistan.

"We tend to forget and these guys are out there every day and the flags get tattered and torn and they come off the vehicles and we don't think about it anymore. I think it's time as Americans we think about those guys, so doing small deeds when we can it's a tremendous deal for them," Legion Operator Training Group’s C.E.O, Marc Masoner said.

The regiment paid frequent visits to the Legion Operator Training Group in Early County.

To show their support the group is putting together a care package to send overseas.

After their training, Masoner took them to White Oak Pastures for dinner.

"Thinking back to how much fun we had around the dinner table, to think now that they're no longer with us, our hearts certainly go out to their families," White Oaks Pastures’ Marketing Manager, Jenni Harris said.

Along with the other items in the care package, White Oak Pastures' is sending 150 steaks.

"In the grand scheme of things, it's nothing. But getting the guys all around the dinner table might help them remember their friends,” Harris said.

Remember their friends and help them remember, what they're doing is appreciated.

"At the end of the day these are the guys that are taking care of us and making sure we're safe," Masoner said.

"Without those guys on the ground, doing what they’re doing, protecting us and our rights and our freedom, there's no way that we can do what we love which is our everyday job," Harris said.

They're also accepting donations from the public but they need them before Thursday, October 17th.

You can call (229) 724-4485 for more information on how to donate.
