Bus Drivers On the Lookout for Predators

In Dothan, there have been two kidnappings and one attempted kidnapping in the last three months. Police are still looking for a suspect who took children from mobile home parks and sexually assaulted them. Local schools are doing their part to make sure kids are safe from predators.

Administrators, teachers and parents are under a heightened state of alert until police find the suspect. Although the kidnappings all happened at night, one of the most vulnerable times in the day is when kids get off the bus after school.

For that reason, Dothan City Schools Transportation Services are taking extra precautions. Bus drivers are keeping an eye out for any suspicious activity at bus stops. They are reporting any unfamiliar faces to authorities.

Students whose parents aren't there to pick them up get taken back to school. Transportation director Jay Bruner says he's even started riding on buses after school as a second pair of eyes.

"It's something that I started doing more and more since this has taken place," explains Bruner. "It's something that I hold very dear. It's one of those things; I can get on there and see what the bus drivers deal with on a daily basis. And also, I'm there to answer any questions parents may have. With what has happened, an extra set of eyes can be very beneficial."

The kidnappings happened at Lavista Mobile Estates, Garden Estates, and Pointe South Mobile Estates.
Police say the suspect took the girls to an unknown location, sexually assaulted them, and took them back home.
The suspect is described as a light-skinned black or Hispanic male with short hair and some facial hair.
