COLUMBIANA, Ala. (AP) -- The leader of a popular youth ministry in Birmingham has pleaded guilty to a charge of attempting to impersonate a police officer.
Reports suggest that a Shelby County judge sentenced 28-year-old Matt Pitt to two years on probation after his guilty plea on Wednesday.
Court records show he was also fined $1,000 and required to make a public apology.
Pitt was arrested in May after flashing a badge and telling Calera police that he was a deputy from Jefferson County. Pitt was originally pulled over for flashing blue lights at motorists on Interstate 65, forcing them to pull over before speeding past them.
Pitt is the leader and founder of a youth ministry called "The Basement" in Birmingham.
