Worst Year For Whooping Cough In 5 Decades

ATLANTA (AP) -- The United States appears to be headed for its worst year for whooping cough in more than five decades. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the number of cases is rising at an epidemic rate -- with nearly 18,000 cases reported so far this year. That's more than twice the number seen at this point last year. Experts say the vaccine that's being used might not be effective enough.
