Woman in Stolen Car Shot by Sarasota Police

Sarasota police say they received a report about the stolen car early Thursday morning, and officers tried to pull over 34-year-old Stephanie Ann Hicks about a half-hour later.

The Herald-Tribune reports that Hicks crashed into three patrol cars as she was trying to flee.

Officers opened fire, hitting her once in each leg.

She was treated at a local hospital and then taken to jail, charged with six counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

A passenger in the car, 20-year-old Floyd David Lee Laycock, was hospitalized after being bitten by a police dog.
