Woman Shot in Police Standoff Dies

A local woman who was wounded in a shoot out December 4th with sheriff’s deputies in Washington County has died.

Mary Ethel Loflin, 62 years old, who lived on Blue Springs Road, just over the county line, was in a standoff with Washington County and Bay County deputies when she was shot and wounded. She was hospitalized for several weeks until her death.

A spokeswoman for Washington County Sheriff Bobby Haddock confirmed Loflin’s death late Friday afternoon. Sheriff’ Haddock was in charge of the incident and the subsequent investigation since it technically was in Washington County territory, although several agencies were involved.

As is standard procedure in any police shooting the Florida Department of Law Enforcement handles the final investigation.
