Dr. Barbara Alford, President of the Wiregrass Foundation, has notified the Dothan City School Board that the Wiregrass Foundation will fund the Head Start program for November and December assuring parents, students and employees that the Head Start program will be up and running through Christmas.
Dothan City Schools Superintendent Tim Wilder:
“Dothan City School’s partnership with the Wiregrass Foundation
has been strong and the Board and I appreciate the heartfelt commitment of Dr. Alford and the Wiregrass Foundation Board for continuing the funding for this very important program. Children’s education was at stake with the possible shutdown of this program and the Wiregrass Foundation, once again, came to our rescue. We cannot emphasize enough how much we appreciate their willingness to help fund this program.”
The Dothan City School Board voted on October 1, 2013 to continue operating the Head Start program through November 5, 2013 despite the government shutdown. Most Head Start programs around the state and country have already closed their doors until the government re-opens.
